The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) Published the Second edition of Guidance manual for “Monograph Development of Herbs and Herbal Products Including Phytopharmaceutical Drugs”. In order to focus on contemporary challenges the second edition has added new chapters such as Phytopharmaceutical drugs, Dissolution of Herbal products, Contaminants, etc. It was launched by Shri Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India and Chairperson, IPC, during the 20th Governing Body Meeting of IPC, held on 14th December 2021 at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi. This meeting was also attended by Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Kumar Director General, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Shri Vikas Sheel, Additional Secretary & MD (NHM), Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Joint Secretary (Regulation), Dr. Nirmal K. Ganguly, Chairman Scientific Body IPC and Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi Secretary-cum-Scientific Director IPC Ghaziabad.
This manual facilitates the concerned manufacturers and other stakeholders in understanding the process of development of herbal drugs & Phytopharmaceutical Ingredient category monographs. It is expected that this manual shall guide them in providing draft monograph/data for PPI category to IPC for developing the monograph.
